Vertebrate Pest Control
Regulation changes came into effect from 1st January 2026 for everyone buying or using professional rodenticides. From 1st January 2026 membership of a farm assurance scheme is no longer acceptable as proof of competence.
Professional Use Rodenticide Regulation Changes
From 1st January 2026 users will need to either have a certificate of competence dated within the last 5 years or have a certificate of competence over 5 years AND have current membership of a CRRU UK approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme. From 1st January 2026 purchasers will need to provide evidence of one of the requirements at point of purchase. See CRRU UK - Training & Certification
The City & Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides for Vertebrate Pest Control for Rats & Mice (PA-R&M) is a CRRU UK approved qualification.
Once the certificate is over 5 years old from the certificate date, if the holder is not a current member of a CRRU UK approved CPD scheme they will need to achieve a new certificate of competence in order to purchase and use professional use rodenticide - therefore users need to ensure that they are checking their certificate date regularly.
