Independent Assessment

This qualification is for the transportation of animals by road on short journeys (over 65km and up to 8 hours duration).  It will ensure you meet the requirement for a Certificate of Competence outlined in the Council Regulation (EC) No1/2005 on the Protection of Animals During Transport and the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 2006 and is required to apply for a Type 1 Transporter Authorisation Licence.

The qualification is for animals or birds and is species specific. It covers the legal requirements, journey planning, vehicle suitability, fitness to travel, causes and signs of stress in animals, space allowances, stocking densities, handling and animal welfare in transit and post journey requirements.

The assessment is an online multiple choice test.

201 - Cattle

202 - Cattle and Sheep

203 - Sheep

204 - Pigs

205 - Poultry

206 - Horses

215 - Game Birds

217 - Goats

When booking please state which species you require and where you wish the assessment to take place - this will affect the price.

A Block Certificate will be issued - this is required when applying to the Animal and Plant Health Agency for a Type 1 Transporter Authorisation Licence.

To transport on public highways candidates must have the appropriate driving licence.
